Surgery is based on informed consent and you will always know exactly what operation you will be undergoing, before admission to hospital, and will not be asked to agree to further or alternative procedures. Before the surgery, you will have your operation discussed with you and will be given a written information sheet.
Any further investigations, such as blood tests or X-Rays requested by your Consultant Surgeon will be undertaken.
The Consultant Surgeon will visit both, before and ask you to sign a Consent form for the operation and again after the operation.
The Consultant Anaesthetist may also make a pre-operative visit to ask relevant questions and explain the method of anaesthesia and will also visit again post-operation.
